Our Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise

It was the end of June, 2013 and two old guys and their wives along with a couple of “younger” guys and wives decided to attend the old guys  52nd year high school class reunion and make it a great weekend cruise along the blue ridge parkways as well.   Two Corvettes, a classic Chevy, a 1929 Ford and a 1965 Mustang fastback were all lined up for the cruise along the parkway from Little Switzerland, to Boone, NC.  Unfortunately the Mustang had to drop out due to illness in the owner’s family. The cars were a hit at the class reunion on Saturday to the point of being included in the class photo.

On Sunday morning after a leisurely breakfast at the Chalet Restaurant we headed North on the Parkway from Little Switzerland with the 29 Ford Custom leading the way.  The weather was great with beautiful white clouds and bright blue sky.  Many stops along the way at the parkway overlooks allowed time to enjoy the cars and take in all the compliments from other motorists.

After a great mid-afternoon dinner at a local Barbeque joint in Blowing Rock NC, we parted ways and cruised back to our home towns.  Fred and Debbie to Charlotte, Andy and Brenda to Huntersville, Dave and Nancy to Statesville, and Danny and Pam to Spruce Pine, NC.  We highly recommend this cruise and plan to do it again when the leaves along the route begin to turn this fall. A cruise from Asheville, NC to Little Switzerland may also be in the planning stages.
